In many respects it’s quite simple – between January 1st, 2021 and December 31st, 2021, I need to run 1,000 miles. That said, while the idea is simple it’s going to be a huge challenge. That’s not least because it will be considerably more than all the running I’ve ever done in my life up until this point. You can find out more about my previous hatred of physical exercise here.
It is the equivalent of running from my home in Exeter to Stockholm or Gibraltar, so for someone without a long history of running, it’ll be a bit of feat. However, to do the challenge properly, there are a few rules.
The Rules
- Only running counts (that is, no walks to the shops or anything else can be added)
- All runs will be logged via Strava and the distance travelled will be based on its tracking*
- The 1,000 miles must be completed by December 31st, 2021
- The runs must be completed by Tim Isaac
- All donations will be split evenly between AKT and Diabetes UK
The challenge will be completed when Strava says I’ve run 1,000mi/1,610km during 2021.
Getting to 1,000 miles is going to be a huge physical and mental challenge for me. After all, going out for a run when its freezing cold and wet takes more willpower than virtually anything else I’ve ever done! I do hope though that having used the Covid-19 lockdowns to first get into running, this challenge will be something good that resulted from the dumpster fire that was 2020.
If you want to see the log of completed runs and the distance travelled so far, head over to the Runs page.
*The runs from January 1st to January 10th were originally tracked using MapMyRun and were then imported into Strava. All runs after January 10th were tracked natively in Strava.
